Lives and works in Nuremberg

Matthias Loebermann is a painter and architect. His architectural works are objects of straight lines and light that are inserted into their environment. By contrast, his pictures do not feature straight lines at all. And the light has to assert itself over cloud-like elements that he applies to the paper using “iron basis”. This unusual emulsion paint is enriched with iron dust that often in several stages after the first application can with the aid of an oxidizing agent be made to corrode as desired. This transformation of the drawing can evoke an extraordinary drama to the lines and color.
