Emanating from the sculpture “Floating Clover” in a pond in the Gerisch Sculpture Park, this exhibit extends a view of the universalistic oeuvre of Katsuhito Nishikawa into the light-suffused rooms of the Villa Wachholtz. Nishikawa, born 1949 in Tokyo, has been living in Germany since 1974. For many years, he has been working on the Rocket Station of the Insel Hombroich Foundation in Neuss. His simplistic, pure, abstract art subtly unites both natural and cultural phenomena. For the first time, the selection of art works shows some new acquisitions of the Gerisch Foundation. Furthermore, the exhibit includes wooden, gipsum and bronze sculptures, sculptures shaped like vessels, pictures employing varying painting techniques, as well as unaltered and altered photographs of landscapes of river Erft in the Lower Rhine area. Nishikawa included documentations of construction plans combined with photographs of his sculptures for public spaces, of architectural designs, and of walk-in sculptures for interior rooms.
